A Platform Behind The Crane Cradle

Canon EOS 5D Mark II + Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM
1/125 sec | f/11 | iso 100

Sometimes it's good to try to shoot with different lens. Different lens will give different view. This is how a platform look behind the crane cradle when shoot using prime lens, 50mm. As I want to make the whole picture clearly see without bokeh, I use small aperture f/11.

Sardine Can

Canon EOS 5D Mark II + Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM
1/30 sec ~ f/7 ~ iso 800

As an amateur photographer and still learning, this is another example of picture which really test my knowledge. I say this because I have to shoot a group of construction workers on the boat under low light condition approaching the vessel I am working on. The sea state during this picture was taken was slight with slightly rolling sideways due to the effect from propeller wash cause by the boat.

I tried few shot with different aperture and in Manual mode. Instead of using Manual mode, I should use have used Aperture Priority (Av) mode because I can easily control the aperture while the shutter speed will be took over by camera. But, in my personal opinion, in photography there is no right or wrong in taking pictures. Different people have different thinking about technique, composition, aperture to use, mode to use and so on. Simply follow the rules.

For me, this picture is not bad and "ok" for me. I can still see the story behind this picture and I hope the message behind this picture will clearly see by all the readers.

Anchor Job

Canon EOS 5D Mark II + Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM
1/15 sec ~ f/2.8 ~ iso 320

A deck hand working on the deck during retrieve anchor from another vessel. This job must be done by an experience deck hand due to the risk of the job and all the equipment used during this operation is high in risk if misused. The anchor on the deck itself weight 3 tons and connected to a chain and wire rope all the time before release to the seabed.

It's quite challenging for me to capture this photo due to the low light condition and the vessel keep rolling sideways. I need to fully concentrate and play with the wave before press the shutter. The lens I am using help me a lot.

1/320 sec ~ f/9 ~ iso 100

This is a picture of transferring oil production operation from FPSO (vessel on the right)  to the export tanker (vessel in the middle). While the small vessel on the left act as a tug boat. She will assist the export tanker in maintaining her position during the whole operation.

This operation normally lasting for 2 days and at the end of the operation after completed transferring, the export tanker will let go the hose and also the towing hawser.

The most busiest part during the whole operation is during connecting the export tanker to the FPSO and disconnecting after completed.
